Named after F.D. Byrd, late superintendent of the Cumberland County Schools, Douglas Byrd High School is centrally located in an established neighborhood near Cape Fear Valley Medical Center. Our staff is culturally diverse and prepared to educate our students academically, socially and emotionally.

Douglas Byrd High School is an example of a comprehensive high school that strives to meet the needs of all students. We focus on building relationships with students through relevant and rigorous academic classes.

Other unique choices include:

  • Finance Academy – Offering specialized courses in finance, accounting, summer internships, and other enrichment activities

  • The Academy of Green Technology – Preparing students to be the innovators of the next generation as they pursue the technical and collaborative skills necessary to drive the emerging green and global economy.

  • JROTC – Preparing students for careers in the military

  • Career and Technical Education – provides a variety of classes pertaining to Artificial Intelligence, Technology, Culinary Arts, and Early Childhood Education, just to name a few.
